Just finished this pic of Harvards flying over my hometown of Kincardine, c.1941. There was a Commonwealth Air Training base in Goderich @ 30 miles south.
Everyone who lived in that area at that time would've seen this scene many times. Albeit, from the ground.

I was just about to ask the same thing...Would they have flown with their "windows" open? You're a professional too, so you might know!

Actually I've seen a number of photos of pilots flying with open canopies. I imagine it would depend on air temperature & speed.
